About the Event

Dance off the lockdown  blues with Funki Porcini, Roisin (Pacha) Simon Green (Raya, Wu Tang Clan and West Ham) Andy Robinson (New Order/Shelly’s Stoke) Plus rising stars of the New Coventry Scene.

JAMES BRADELL is FUNKI PORCINI;

Musician, filmmaker, and artist. His feet and head firmly planted in the world of creativity, ideas and bohemian possibilities.

His is a life well travelled – escaping the UK squat scene for America in the late 70’s, a sojourn in Berlin, followed by 10 years making music and film in Italy enjoying la dolce vita. He now lives in Warwick

James returned to the UK as a Ninja Tunes artist, releasing critically acclaimed albums; 'Hed Phone Sex', a heady record openly made more for the pillows than for the dance floor. Followed by 'Love Pussycats and Carwrecks', 'Let's See What Carmen Can Do', 'The Ultimately Empty Million Pounds' and 'Fast Asleep', where Porcini, together with Team Alcohol aka Rupert Small, produced stunning visual interpretations of the music, released on a DVD sold with the CD and premiered at The National Film Theatre in London.

James continues to release inspired music on his own label via bandcamp. Make stunning film and video installations. Playing internationally at arts festivals and cultural gatherings. James was invited to write the musical score for the 1929 Georgian Soviet film Chemi Bebia at the Zubroffka Festival in Bialystok, Poland. We are delighted to unveil the Coventry Premier of this major work on the 16 July as part of our contribution to COC 2021.

A great provocateur and humourist, James’ sound is utterly contemporary mixing breakbeat, liquid drum and bass, surreal jazz, found noise, synthetic strangeness, dream logic, joy and sheer gorgeousness.

Recommended recent releases reflect the strange mood of lockdown; Drift to This, Boredom Never Looked So Good and Motorway. Not forgetting the Conservative Apocalypse. All easily accessible on

Coventry sees the first of what we hope will be major contributions to the grass roots COC programme.

ANDREW ROBINSON

Andy's career has been a magical journey through the music business; From opening the Hacienda in 1982 to being made Music Manager of the Year 2019.

He was resident DJ at The Rave Cauldron at Stoke's legendary Shelley's Nightclub. Frontline Pirate Radio DJ, RnB remixer, and still finds time to manage New Order

Moonlighting from his day job he DJ's for; We Love It, Psychedelic DiscoTech, Festival No6, Kendal Calling (and soon to be opened ace club) the Green Haus Manchester.

Andy will play, for your delight, upfront house and techno, wilfully blending genres. At heart his is always a raver.

ROISIN WALSH

Hailing from Glanmire Cork. Roisin cut her DJ chops as part of the emerging family of hyper-imaginative producers lDoubt, Tension Syn and those on the Flood label

Producers Numbertheory, Lighght, Ellll and Superfície – are now making names for themselves in European club music circles, with syncopated mutations of percussion-driven electronic music.

Although they’re not all easily grouped together, the common denominator is a primal drum-laden sound where rhythms tumble at breakneck speed. The music gives many of these young artists a sense of purpose and identity

Roisin plays a smoother housier influenced vibe, suffused with joy and a more contented view of the world. Her talent recognized on holiday in Ibiza where, she won a competition and ended up playing a headline slot at Pacha. Like her pals Roisin broke for the brighter lights of the Manchester Music Scene where she is a vital part of emerging LGBT night mixing mates and Psychedelic DiscoTech. She makes her Coventry COC debue on the 6th.

SIMON GREEN

Originally an electronic engineer, 23 years a firefighter and Union Official. Turned event manager – part of the much loved ICA based multi media collective Raya. Producer at Glastonbury, Love Music Hate Racism and ‘United Nations’ events. A gifted photographer, SImon lectured at Salisbury Art College, tutored for BBC Blast and become a Creative Course Leader. In 2010 Simon focused his skill set on managing tours and production for the Wu-Tang Clan, Pusha T, Duke Dumont, Maya Jane Coles, Lethal Bizzle, Kanya (KANYA!!!) and many others. Special mention to TY (RIP.) without whom, none of this would have happened. He wound up based in Beverly Hills working with the WU Music Group, 360 Management amongst other heavy weight production teams.

Having looked around at the top, Simon picked up his camera and now resides in Coventry. Occasionally producing tours and working at the exciting edges of the arts and community, where he can cause most positive change.

Simon has always Dj’ed and maintains an insider’s knowledge of the electronic dance music scene. We are thrilled that he has agreed to pick out some of the nuggets from his massive record collection to play a set of ‘arse wiggling, funky electro, mind-blowing tunes for us. A rare Coventry outing for this wonderful human being.

We will remember TY's life on the night, special friend and inspiration to Simon. His life cut short by Covid, aged just 47.
